This is no ordinary bee – this is a Scilly Bee! And it may just appear to have flown on to your hand, that's the impression this lovely ring gives.
There is a unique species of bee here in the Isles of Scilly, known as the Scilly Bee. We were asked quite a few years ago to make one by a regular visitor and finally, after many observations, drawings and tweaks we have created a large and a small version. It has our classic oxidised stripy body and a sand frosted finish to make it look ‘fluffy’, we really like it here in the workshop and we hope you do too.
We will be donating some of the profits of each bee to a wild flower meadow project, the details of which are not quite finalised but the sale of each bee will go towards preserving their habitat here on the island. Rob started work on the bee on Boxing Day and finished it at the end of February, it has been quite a project but one we are very proud of! We've enjoyed adding to the bee collection.
Each small bee is 1.5 cm long and has a 2.1 cm wide wingspan.
Each small bee charm weighs 2.5 grams and sits on a 2 mm wire shank, this ring is the same as the other rings in our stacking collection but we think it looks on its own.
Solid 925 sterling silver.
